THE COLGAN
STORY

Our story begins with founder Martin Colgan, a traditional stonemason and bricklayer from Yorkshire who migrated to Perth in 1966. Starting as a bricklaying and block laying contractor, Martin branched out becoming a registered builder before starting to specialise in heritage in 1985. Together with his two sons, Nathan and Daniel Colgan, the business has grown and is best known for specialising in large scale heritage restoration, but is equally comfortable with new builds and refurbishments in often complex operational environments such as schools / offices / church /train stations and the CBD.

We pride ourselves on establishing and fostering a genuinely friendly and cooperative spirit with all parties involved in a project and adopting a ‘can do attitude’ to the inevitable challenges that arise. We aim to make your construction project a truly positive and pleasurable experience.

TRADITIONAL ARTISANS

Our clients benefit from more than half a century of construction experience, including the last 40 years specialising in commercial heritage restoration. Colgan directly employs expert stonemasons, bricklayers, plasterers, carpenters, and boilermakers to ensure the highest level of workmanship. Many of our staff have been with the company for over 20 years, as have our trusted sub-contractors who we know will deliver what is expected of them.

KEEPING THE SKILLS ALIVE

These time-honoured and specialised trades and skills are becoming rarer each year. At Colgan, we understand this and have been committed for over 30 years to imparting wisdom and practical knowledge to the next generation of apprentice carpenters and stone masons. We are proud to be founding members of the Heritage Skills Association of WA, sharing our knowledge and expertise with all those equally committed to preserving the traditional skills required to protect and restore our historic built heritage for the generations to come.
