What Is It

Many of our historic building’s masonry has been painted, generally with numerous coats of acrylic paint. The acrylic paint forms a plastic like coating that is impermeable to moisture. This can cause moisture to be trapped in the masonry leading to issues such as dampness, mould growth, and deterioration of the brick or stone and the masonry joints, compromising the structural integrity and aesthetics of the building.

Why It Matters

The careful removal of these layers of paint is often the first vital step in restoring and conserving your heritage buildings’ masonry. Colgan’s has vast experience in the removal of acrylic, lead and calcium-based paints from both brick and stonework and employs a range of specialty techniques, including steam, chemical poultices, and hand scraping.
